Boulder County, Colo. — Coloradans who buy their own health insurance can sign up for 2027 coverage through Connect for Health Colorado from Sunday, Nov. 1, through Friday, Jan. 15. This year, prices are rising and new federal rules change who can get help paying for a plan. Boulder County Health Coverage Guides offer free help to anyone who wants to understand the changes, compare plans, and enroll.

Connect for Health Colorado is the state’s official health insurance marketplace. It’s where people who don’t get coverage through work or a public program like Health First Colorado can buy a private plan.

What’s Changing in 2027

  • Prices are going up. Premiums for plans sold to individuals are rising by about 10% to 11% on average statewide. That’s lower than the expected national average of 15%. Some people will pay more, even if they still get help. Some customers will get a notice from Connect for Health Colorado with their new prices at the end of October.
  • New rules limit who gets financial help. Starting Jan. 1, 2027, a 2025 federal law called H.R. 1 limits who can get help paying for a plan. This includes help that lowers your monthly cost, help that lowers your copays and deductibles, and Colorado Premium Assistance. People who don’t qualify can still buy a plan at full price. Only these groups can still get financial help:
    • U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals
    • Lawful permanent residents, also called green card holders
    • Cuban and Haitian entrants
    • People from Palau, the Marshall Islands, and Micronesia who live in the U.S. under the Compact of Free Association
  • State help continues. Colorado Premium Assistance will keep lowering monthly costs for households with incomes between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level. It gives $70 a month for the first person in a household and $25 a month for each additional person.
  • OmniSalud low-cost plans will cost $15 a month. OmniSalud helps undocumented Coloradans buy affordable health insurance. In 2027, low-cost plans will go from $0 to $15 per person each month. Current members must reapply by Monday, Nov. 30, to keep their plan. New members can enter a lottery for any spots left over, but very few are expected. Anyone can apply for a full-price plan through Jan. 15.
